In the1880’s a barge laden with a solid kauri building leaves Auckland City to its destination of the historic Whitford Brick Works. A team of bullocks impressively drags the house 400 meters from the shoreline, to become the home of the Works Manager. It is that same home, which today, and for the past 29 years is the clubrooms for the Whitford Pony Club. Still located on the grounds is one of two of the workers brick cottages…. Both buildings over 100 years old!
Whitford Pony Club lies between Maraetai and Whitford in South-East Auckland. Set on 32 rolling acres, the property overlooks a sparkling estuary and is one of a minority of Pony Clubs in New Zealand to own its own grounds.
Established in 1979 by local families, the club enjoys some outstanding facilities: 2 bark arenas, a large sand arena, 2 barns, wash down areas and a clubhouse. We are very proud of our latest projects: new showjump stands and a major refurbishment of the cross-country course. This work is being led by Tich Massey, one of New Zealand's top course designers and has been made possible by the Whitford Community Trust.
We hold regular rallies and events. We also open our grounds to professional coaches to hold riding clinics. Casual riders are encouraged to come and do some schooling or go for a hack. Our beautiful grounds are made for sharing! New members are always welcome- so if you have a horse-mad child (or adult) in your family- please give us a call!
